A Thousand Days

Only 22% of the people living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have access to clean water. Women wake in the middle of the night to make the dangerous trek to small springs located miles away to collect water. Despite these efforts, many still become sick and sometimes die after drinking the contaminated water. But in one community, people spent 1,000 long days digging the trenches for 18 miles of pipe, bringing clean water closer to home.
